Top 10 Highest-Paying States in 2026

At the other end of the spectrum, the lowest-paying states are concentrated mostly in the South and parts of the Mountain West.
Mississippi ranks last, with an average individual salary of $43,100.
West Virginia follows at $47,100.
Arkansas and Louisiana both sit at $48,600.
New Mexico comes in at $51,000.
